Meet Harriette Haig

Hi, I'm Harriette, Clinical Director and founder of Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy.

I am a specialist physiotherapist with a particular interest in conditions affecting the jaw, face, head and neck. I work with people experiencing jaw pain, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), headaches, facial palsy, neck pain and a range of more complex movement disorders.

I understand that symptoms affecting the face, jaw and head can be particularly difficult to live with. They can affect eating, speaking, sleeping, socialising and your confidence, while finding the right specialist to help isn't always straightforward.

My role is to help you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and, most importantly, what you can do about them.

I take an individualised, evidence-based approach to assessment and treatment, combining specialist physiotherapy with advanced clinical skills where appropriate.

My aim is simple: to help you understand your symptoms, improve your function and get back to the things that matter to you.

Why I founded Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy

I founded Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy because I recognised that people experiencing jaw, facial and head & neck conditions can struggle to find the specialist care they need.

These conditions can be complex. Pain in the jaw may be influenced by the muscles, joints, teeth, neck, nervous system and everyday habits, while conditions such as facial palsy and movement disorders require a very different approach from traditional musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

I wanted to create a service where patients could access specialist assessment, evidence-based treatment and genuinely individualised care in one place.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I wanted Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy to be a clinic where we take the time to understand the whole picture.

Whether someone has recently developed jaw pain or has been living with symptoms for years, my goal is to help them understand their condition and feel confident about the next steps.

The bigger goal

There is also a wider reason behind MJP.

I want to help improve recognition of the role physiotherapy can play in the management of jaw and head & neck conditions, both among patients and within the wider medical and dental professions.

Physiotherapy has an important place within the patient journey, and I want Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy to be part of improving access to that specialist care.

My Approach to Treatment

I believe understanding your symptoms is an important part of treatment.

When you're experiencing persistent pain or a complex condition, it can be frustrating to receive treatment without really understanding what is happening.

That's why I take time to listen to your concerns, understand your history and assess the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Your treatment isn't based on a standard protocol.

Instead, your assessment helps us understand:

What is happening?

Why might it be happening?

What can we do about it?

From there, we develop an individualised treatment plan based on your symptoms, goals and the best available evidence.

Treatment may include physiotherapy, exercise, manual therapy, education and behavioural strategies, with advanced treatments such as medical botulinum toxin considered where clinically appropriate.

A whole-person approach

Jaw and head & neck conditions rarely exist in isolation.

Sleep, stress, habits, posture, movement, muscle activity and previous injuries can all influence symptoms.

That's why I look beyond the painful area and consider the whole picture when assessing your condition.

The aim isn't simply to reduce your symptoms today. It's to help you understand your condition and give you the tools to manage your symptoms confidently in the long term.

Outside of my clinical work, I'm passionate about staying fit and healthy. Sometimes this could be completing Hyrox competitions or marathons, but it also includes running around after my two children!

I believe that good healthcare should feel personal. You shouldn't feel like a number on a waiting list or leave an appointment wondering what is actually happening.

Whether you've been experiencing symptoms for a short time or have been searching for answers for years, I want you to feel listened to, understood and confident about your treatment.

This is why I created Midlands Jaw Physiotherapy! I am always willing to answer emails or queries regarding your treatment, just get in contact!!
